Morgan Carbon Aerospace and Defence

Morgan Carbon plays a vital role in the world's aerospace and defence industries, from commercial airlines to the Eurofighter Typhoon front-line fighter, from the Space Shuttle to submarines, and from aircraft carriers to the Challenger 2 battle tank.

Critical components are manufactured in carbon for a range of applications that includes jet engine nozzle control systems, submarine fuel metering control systems, and aircraft fuel pumps and generators.

Morgan's massive investment in a global network of manufacturing sites ensures these critical products are impeccably manufactured time after time after time.

In each case the distinctive characteristics of carbon provide a special solution to a design need.

Morgan Carbon's researchers and application engineers work closely with customer designers and manufacturers so that the company's products continue to meet ever-more demanding performance requirements - including the next generation of aerospace and defence developments.

World-wide, Morgan is the preferred choice for Aerospace applications.

Morgan creates ‘Aero and Precision Brushes’ in recognition of the special demands of carbon brushes employed in the aerospace industry. Aero and Precision Brushes co-ordinates the product design, development and marketing resources of all the different aerospace brush manufacturing sites, enabling individual plants to benefit from the experience and knowledge of others.

The pooling of these resources allows the established Morgan outlets to offer an enhanced range of products and services.

Used by :- Airscrew, Artus, Goodrich, Muirhead Aerospace, Saywell International, Sermat, Smiths Aerospace Ltd, Thales and all major US Aerospace Carbon Brush Users.

Application Engineering

Carbon Brushes are available in all shapes and sizes, toleranced to suit the needs of our customers. Carbon brushes used in the equipment of high flying aircraft, wear rapidly unless specially treated. The main cause for the rapid wear is the low absolute humidity that can exist at altitudes above 5000 feet. Special blends of materials and adjuvants have been developed to perform under these conditions. These specially developed materials can operate in excess of 100,000 feet, or even in space.

Dependant upon grade of brush employed, shunts may be pressed into the carbon during the moulding process, riveted or tamped with graphite or metal powder. A wide variety of accessory options are available, including custom designed compression springs and welded or crimped & soldered terminations. Where advanced warning of brush wear is required, a patented device can be inserted into the brush carbon during manufacture. To compliment our broad spectrum of brushes, auxiliary components such as brush holder assemblies, slip rings or commutators can be supplied separately or as a complete package if so required.

Whether your application is a starter, alternator, generator, auxiliary power unit, actuator, fuel pump, servo-motor, propeller de-icer or satellite signal systems, your Aero and Precision Brushes application Engineering team is at your service. We have a comprehensive portfolio of grades of material to cover all your application needs.

Quality

Appreciating the extremely critical nature of the various electrical systems on aircraft applications. Morgan’s Aero and Precision Brushes are well placed to more than satisfy recognised quality requirements such as ISO 9001:2000. Morgan excellent material technologies, the shunt and its connection the precision machining and moulding all play an important role in the dependability of the brush in the application. Quality also shows in our people and the way we conduct the business.
